Curriculum and Instruction
Lovejoy ISD believes it is essential to provide a caring and creative learning environment that promotes excellence, fosters integrity, and encourages each student to reach his or her academic, extracurricular, and social potential.
Lovejoy ISD is committed to designing an exemplary curriculum that is academically rich, challenging, and prepares our students to flourish in the 21st Century. Such a curriculum promotes authentic, collaborative, and reflective learning. Students are expected to be self-directed, able to manage complexity, think critically, communicate in multiple modes, and solve problems. High expectations are set within a supportive environment for student learning that fulfills the Graduate Profile.
Our student learning objectives begin with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) that are also aligned to the Texas College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS).
The foundation of Lovejoy’s Curriculum:
is standards-based (TEKS) and provides a path to mastery for each student
is thoughtfully planned, well-defined, effectively delivered, and aligned both horizontally and vertically to state and local assessments
is created with the belief that all students are capable of meeting high standards of excellence with the certainty that a positive correlation exists between student academic achievement and teacher expectations
is judged on the basis of student achievement
because students progress through the curriculum at different rates, formative assessment acknowledges the skills and content that students have learned or are still acquiring
continuous formative assessment is essential to identify and close learning gaps for each student
reassessment is a practice that ensures mastery of the TEKS for each student
believes that students must practice 21st Century skills such as: critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration in order to be successful in today’s world
incorporates learning activities that are relevant and represent real-world skills
is designed to develop the skills, knowledge, processes, and attitudes necessary to support success beyond Lovejoy
is in continuous development, revision, and review
Teachers, as partners in creating and delivering instruction, plan collaboratively to provide a consistent experience across classrooms and support student’s individual needs.
