Digital Citizenship
How Is Digital Citizenship Addressed in Lovejoy ISD?
Children are growing up with the power of digital media and technology to explore, connect, create, and learn in new ways. With this power, young people have great opportunities, but they also face challenges and dilemmas. Schools are dealing with the ramifications, including issues such as online safety, cyberbullying, privacy, hate speech, misinformation, and digital distraction. To address issues such as online safety, cyberbullying, privacy, hate speech, misinformation, and digital distraction, Lovejoy ISD is dedicated to creating a positive culture around media and technology by incorporating digital citizenship education as part of our curricula.
Lovejoy ISD uses Digital Citizenship Lessons to address critical issues facing our students in a fast-changing world of media and technology. These innovative lessons teach students to think critically and develop the habits of mind to navigate digital dilemmas in their everyday lives. The lessons are aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and are based on six core topics that spiral throughout the student educational experience in Lovejoy: Media Balance and Well-Being, Privacy and Security, Digital Footprint and Identity, Relationships and Communication, Cyberbullying Digital Drama and Hate Speech, and News and Media Literacy.
The Digital Citizenship lessons are spread throughout the year. The lessons are intended to support what is currently being taught in the classroom and should be embedded into the learning experience at the appropriate time.
